Free pre start checklists on any phone
Prestarts for up to 3 assets, you and 3 drivers, and a fault you see the moment something fails.
How it works
- 1
Add your assets
Up to 3. The prestart list for each type is ready the moment the asset goes in, so there is nothing to write first.
- 2
Give each driver a login
They sign in at assetpass.com.au on their own phone and do the check there. Nothing to install from a store.
- 3
Every check is saved
With the date, the driver's name and a photo of anything that failed, filed against the asset for whenever you need to show it.
When something fails
A paper sheet records a fault. It does not tell anybody, and it does not stop the asset going out. This does both.
A failed item becomes a fault
The driver fails the item, adds a note and a photo, and the fault is raised the moment the check is saved. Nobody has to remember to pass it on.
The owner is told straight away
On the bell in the app and by email, with the asset and what failed. Not at the end of the week when somebody hands the sheets in.
A critical item holds the asset off the road
Brakes, tyres, couplings and the other items marked critical. The driver's phone says not to take it out, and the asset reads off the road on every screen.
Cleared only when the owner signs it fixed
The owner marks the fault fixed, and the sign off is kept with their name and the time. Until then the asset stays off the road.
The driver is told
The driver who found it hears that it is fixed, and whether the asset is clear to go or something else still holds it.
The Heavy Vehicle Accreditation guideline asks an accredited operator to “Have a process for recording, reporting and escalating faults found in the daily check”.
Recorded on the check, reported to the owner, escalated by holding the asset until it is signed fixed. What the auditor asks to see
Your lists, your words
Starter lists come ready for each type, following the NHVR daily check and, for plant, the checks before use, with the items that hold the asset already marked. Every item is editable: rename it, add your own, take one out, and choose which ones hold the asset.

What the law says
- No provision of the Heavy Vehicle National Law requires a prestart checklist. It sets a duty to keep transport safe, and a dated check is how you show you met it.
- Under accreditation the daily check is compulsory, in those words.
- The Heavy Vehicle National Law has not commenced in the Northern Territory or Western Australia.

Questions people ask
Is it really free?
Yes. Up to 3 assets, and you plus 3 drivers, for as long as you like. No card is asked for, so there is nothing to cancel and nothing to be charged. It is free because the businesses that need more than prestarts on a few assets were always going to pay for the full plan.
Do drivers need to install anything?
No. Each driver signs in at assetpass.com.au in the browser on their own phone and does the check there. Adding it to the home screen makes it open like an app, full screen with no address bar, and the Get the app page shows how on an iPhone and on Android.
Get the appWhat happens when I need more?
Upgrade with one button inside the app. You get 30 days of everything free: more assets, more people, rego and inspection reminders, servicing, jobcards and the rest. After that it is $7 an asset a month, $35 minimum, ex GST. Your assets, prestarts and faults come with you, and if you let the 30 days run out without carrying on, you go back to free prestarts on your first 3 assets, with every record kept.
